Easiest fix in the world for SS would be to raise the cap on income subject to tax.
It's like everyone gets stupid with regard to taxing any higher incomes. "OMG we need to search high and low for a solution to this complex conundrum!"
There are already many examples of the type of houses the developer builds in Maplewood. No builder can ever replicate the charm and uniqueness of the original homes they tear down. If they were willing to do a gut on the inside while maintaining the outside aesthetics, that would be a different situation. But these developers do not that. I stand by my original comment that a new home will stick out like a sore thumb and change the charm of the neighborhood, not for the better. When we moved here years ago, a main reason was the non cookie cutter inventory of homes. Now there are Lefko specials all over the place.
This has actually been a good thing for Canada. The Canadian hospitality sector has been delighted to offer its services to the people of the globe who would like to come to North America but have no interest in spending money in the US.
Of course, it is a two way street. Lots of Canadians who would have been traveling to the US now choose to spend their loonies in Europe or Mexico.
I voted GOP for TC when Art Gartenlaub ran. He was a good man.
When was that? I don't remember Art running for TC.
It was years before I paid any attention to TC candidates' party affiliation. Party affiliation only became one of several factors I considered when someone pointed out to me that having members of the same political party as the Governor's could aid in getting approvals/support from Trenton. Most recently party affiliation has once again become a non-issue at the local level since Democrats are the only ones currently running for local office.
🐻 Bear Sightings on the Rise in Millburn/Short Hills
As Mayor, I have been receiving an increasing number of reports of black bears in local neighborhoods lately. Under NJ Fish & Wildlife policy, bears that aren't threatening people or property are left alone — they're just looking for food. We all need to collectively do our part to make our neighborhoods less attractive to them.
You can help by:
✅ Storing trash cans in a garage/shed until pickup morning
✅ Bringing pet food inside
✅ Taking down bird feeders
✅ Cleaning grills after use
Feeding bears is illegal in NJ. If you spot one, keep your distance and let it pass.
Here is a link to the NJ Fish & Wildlife bear activity report site. https://dep.nj.gov/njfw/bears/activity-reports/. It contains summaries of black bear sightings, nuisance and damage reported to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
To report black bear damage and nuisance, call the DEP’s 24-hour, toll-free hotline at 1-877-WARN DEP ( 1-877-927-6337).
Let's all do our part to keep Millburn safe for people and wildlife.
